Over the last two years the Florida Maritime Museum's educational offerings have significantly increased. With over 700 students who have participated in the Folk School since it's inception in 2017, the skills the museum staff and Folk School teachers have provided to our community cannot be quantified.
But these programs are not enough. We have witnessed first hand, that our youngest generations do not know where their seafood comes from, or how jam gets made. Children need to learn not only the specifics of our history but how it impacts the present and the future.
This is why we need YOU.
In order to accomplish these goals, to invite more children to our museum, we need larger facilities and other capital improvements to accommodate school field trips. Through this fundraiser, our goal is to raise $34,290 which will be matched by the Manatee County Tourist Development Council.*
These remaining capital improvements that the funds can be used towards consist of the following:
- Renovate and expand the Chickee Hut for field trips
- LED lights added to the museum property, new structures as well as signs and grounds to provide better visibility during evening events.
- Concrete Pathways
- Mosaic to enhance the Butterfly Garden
- Small Ranchos ( thatched huts ) to accommodate an interactive learning area
